Taylor Janzen has been hard at work finishing up her latest project, I Live In Patterns. Her new single “Lost Dog,” is Janzen’s first independent release, focusing on grief and rage. Written with Jon Class in summer 2024, when Janzen had just moved to Nashville. Trying to figure out what to do with the “constant tornado” in her chest, she wanted to make something that made her feel brave again
On the track Janzen shares, “I was in the middle of a quarter life crisis and trying to figure out what to do with the constant tornado happening in my chest. In short, I was trying to find a version of me that didn’t exist anymore. Trying that hard all the time left me feeling like I was wandering empty streets and calling for a dog that had run away, never to return. I felt like I had lost something sacred and special. I didn’t realize at the time that loss can sometimes be reinvention in disguise.”
“Lost Dog” is about the hurt and confusion of growing up. A song Janzen wrote as a funeral for her younger self of sorts. A funeral where she could get said “tornado” out of her chest and turn it into a piece of art. Janzen mourns the loss of the girl she will never be again. Lyrics express her strong emotions that come with having to leave the past behind and brave an unknown future.
