Tate McRae has released her new anthem “TIT FOR TAT,” and she does not hold back for a single second.
On the newest track, McRae seems to be confronting the fallout of a relationship that was all-around toxic. She shares a sense of confusion that usually follows this fallout, along with the harsh realization of someone’s true colors showing. The tone of the song is set immediately as the opening lyric is sung: “Thought I might love you again, I’ll see how I feel / Now that you’re acting like that, boy, I never will / Last night, she answered my call, it sealed the deal / Right now, I’m not even about you.”
The repeated chorus suggests a turning point in McRae’s mindset as she hints at a final confirmation of betrayal when she sings about her call being answered. The line refers to another girl being in the picture and the truth is unveiled.
Throughout this track, Tate also shares her feelings of disappointment and disbelief: “I was nothing but respectful and you know that / Why you changing up the narrative to write?” That line can sting, especially when the song refers to someone who is also in the public eye.
She shares a warning, saying if this wants to go toe-for-toe, then to do it, referencing the “TIT FOR TAT” title. The song leans into the pop side that McRae is known and loved for. She confidently delivers emotional detachment, showing that she is not angry, but she absoutely is over it.
“TIT FOR TAT” is not just about heartbreak; it is also about self-respect and having boundaries.
Tate McRae is closing out 2025 on her Miss Possessive World Tour, but many fans are wondering whether or not her newest single will be added to the setlist.
