The air was electric at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer as four-piece indie pop group Summer Salt filled the venue for their highly anticipated Driving Back to Hawaii Tour. The group celebrated not only the ten-year anniversary of their EP Driving to Hawaii, but also drummer and multi-instrumentalist Eugene Chung’s birthday, making the night extra special.

The set bounced around, weaving songs from the group’s earlier years, like “Going Native” and “One Last Time,” with more recent hits such as “Clover” and “Ribbons.” The song variety gave the setlist a well-rounded feel, showcasing the band’s evolution while maintaining their classic and relaxed, easy-listening sound. Fans sang and swayed along as the band moved through each song.

“Who wants to hear Driving to Hawaii tonight?” lead singer Matthew Terry asked the crowd, sparking cheers and excitement. After poking fun at cheesesteaks and Philly sports, the band launched into a full performance of the Driving to Hawaii EP, rounding out their show with “Gimme Little Sign” from their most recent album, Driving Back to Hawaii

As the night drew to a close, the mix of nostalgia and fresh surf-pop sounds left Philadelphia fans buzzing with excitement, solidifying Summer Salt’s place in the indie pop scene.
