Space Nat puts on a “Happy Face” on new single

Date:

The self-proclaimed founder of “bathtub pop,” Space Nat makes music that helps one to heal, relax, and get in touch with their creative side.  Equal parts vulnerable and resilient, the indie artist has formed a strong impression through singles like “Insecure” and “Details,” allowing her multifaceted personality to shine through.  Additionally, Space Nat’s classical training and love for synth-pop and folk rock helps her confront feelings that she would not necessarily identify out loud, as we hear on the indie rock ballad “hit me up.”  Continuing to let others into her personal, eclectic world, Space Nat gives us the wistful “Happy Face.”

A product of therapy, introspection, and meditation, “Happy Face” takes a look at lingering feelings from a past relationship.  As Space Nat gives us lines like “I’ve been meditating, losing my mind” and “I feel lost and I feel ashamed,” she sorts through the thoughts that have been holding her back.  In the end, she admits, “I put on a happy face so I don’t have to pretend I don’t miss you, when I do,” allowing herself to give into the warmth brought on by the track’s gentle contemporary production.  You can check it out below.

On social media, Space Nat shared,

“‘Happy Face’ came into the world [as] a bit of a joke, just with how raw and (hilariously imo) autobiographical the writing was, but once we started working through the lyrics, it started to seem like this might be the most honest, helpful, and grounded song in my catalog.”

You can listen to “Happy Face” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
