Sidney explores parallel futures on new single “sliding doors”

Date:

Australian singer-songwriter Sidney is back again with her latest release “sliding doors,” an alt pop track that showcases her soft, light vocals with a burst of emotional energy. It’s the latest look at her upcoming EP what if it ends, which is set for release in February 2026.

It’s a beautiful track overall, leaning into the intimate storytelling that first won over listeners.

Since her breakout moment with Bullet in 2020, Sidney has made a name for herself in the indie pop landscape thanks to her lyricism and soundscapes. This single in particular highlights her fresh energy: bright production wrapped around weighted lyrics.

Inspired by the 1998 romcom Sliding Doors, which starred Gwyneth Paltrow and followed two parallel lives, the track plays with parallel endings, imagining the two paths a relationship could take: the version where you hold on, and the one where you finally let go. Of the track, she shares,

“I was still holding onto the belief that if I just pushed hard enough, maybe it could still work. But sometimes, choosing one path is what shows you the truth about what you actually wanted. With its light/dark contrast and undercurrent of emotional unrest, Sliding Doors sonically captures the emotional tug-of-war at the heart of the EP, sitting right at the tipping point between fantasy and clarity.”
