Turkish-American singer-songwriter and producer Sena has released her first single of the year with “Don’t Let Me Die.” This is also her first single from her upcoming debut EP Tension in The Fortune Teller’s Tent.
The 29-year-old says her life being lived between two cultures has deeply influenced her music, producing alternative pop sounds along with both Turkish and Western influences.
“Don’t Let Me Die” has haunting melodies that feature the sounds of whales, but lyrically it encompasses her fear of death and the navigation of loneliness. She says the song has been in the works for years, but she put it off until she felt more confident in her skills as a music producer.
Melodically, the track is somber and isolating, but it’s lyrically tactful and vulnerable in its tone. The fear of death is universal but it feels lonely in ways, and there’s something beautiful about being able to share a part of yourself in your art the way it’s done it “Don’t Let Me Die”.
Her second single from the EP, “Give The Giver,” is set to release April 17, with the full EP to come at some point in May. We can expect more brutal vulnerability about the realities of navigating heartbreak, grief and everything that comes with life in your 20s.
