Scene Queen releases new vibrant disco-inspired single “L-Shaped Couch”

Date:

It’s time to grab your hot-pink roller skates and find the nearest disco ball because Scene Queen is officially back and embracing a perfectly pink retro era on her new single “L-Shaped Couch.”

The vibrant track welcomes listeners to this new era of ‘bimbo at the disco’ as Scene Queen takes the reigns in its very beginning and exclaims, “You know that’s disco as fuck!” Known for her usual vicious screams and heavy breakdowns, “L-Shaped Couch” is the most sonically different addition to her growing discography, which is what makes it so enticing. Its glittery pop and disco-inspired elements and Scene Queen’s stunning vocals blend flawlessly with a classic metalcore flair to create a sound that’s as groovy as it is unique.

In a post shared to her X account, Scene Queen discusses the importance of this genre shift and the inspiration behind this upcoming era amid the current political climate. She writes,

“I wanted to pay homage to a music era that I feel was ahead of its time. The disco era was dominated by marginalized people. Black artists were at the top. Queer artists were at the top. Women were at the top. It was an era where underground clubs were filled with all different races, sexualities, and backgrounds coming together to dance for hours. It was dominated by groups that people were actively trying to silence. Yet, it was a genre filled with so much humor, joy, and light. And ironically rock fans HATED it.”

“L-Shaped Couch” tells the story of Scene Queen’s first queer encounter, which she describes as the most positive experience one could ever hope for. With playful lyrics like, “I ain’t ever had intentions / never even thought about girlfriends / so why is there all this tension?” the song explores the excitement and nervousness of embracing your sexuality with open arms for the first time. It’s her way of unapologetically celebrating queer joy, while still actively pushing the boundaries of the modern metal scene.

Most notably seen as an empowering female figure that embraces sexuality and never backs down from calling out misogyny and mistreatment in a male-dominated industry, Scene Queen assures fans she’s still the same man-hating icon everybody knows and loves, continuing,

“Your girl isn’t going anywhere and still finding ways to fight the current rock scene, just a different, more thought out way this time.”

“L-Shaped Couch” begins this new era almost exactly one year since the release of her powerful debut record, Hot Singles In Your Area. Scene Queen will be embarking on the Hot Shows In Your Area Tour starting with the United States in July and wrapping up in the United Kingdom and Europe in September.
