A few weeks ago, Royals shared the bittersweet pop punk banger “Home,” which was about the discomfort that comes when missing someone you love. As tough as it is to be away, Royals know that distance can only make the heart grow fonder, conveying such optimism throughout the track. Sometimes, however, relationships do not go the way you plan, despite your attempts to make things work. For their next single, “Let Me Go,” the band tap into the frustrations that arise when you realize that your time and effort has been wasted.
On “Let Me Go,” Royals lean into a sound that is more on the new wave side of pop punk, containing synth and trap beats. Yet, the guys retain their classic sound, with lead vocalist Luke Smithson’s gritty vocals and an irresistible pop punk breakdown. It all centers around the chorus, where Luke reveals, “I feel like we’re wasting time trying to make things better” and “You tell me that you love me, then you let me go!” You can check it out in the sleek skateboard video below.

“‘Let Me Go’ is a tale of wasted time and effort into something that was beyond repair. While every relationship is a learning curve, as we get older, the frustrating feeling of wasted time only becomes more relevant, and we’re sure a lot of people will have someone in their past like the one in this song. But while the content might not be as happy, the structure of the song is upbeat so in ways it gives off more of an FU vibe.”
