Rio Romeo gives us a new definition of the word “lovesick” with their new single, “Terminal Lovesick.”
When asked about the new single, Rio shared:
“’Terminal Lovesick’ is about the feeling of all-consuming infatuation in the beginning of a relationships. I feel like I always look around and am like ‘there’s no other way that all Lesbians are able to be functioning members of society through this.’ When I was writing this, I was trying to channel 1960’s drama like ‘It’s My Party’ by Leslie Gore or ‘Crazy’ by Patsy Cline while keeping it kind of silly and high energy.”
“Terminal Lovesick” perfectly describes that feeling of falling in love and hearing sirens at the start of the new relationship, which is new and exciting yet terrifying at the same time.
The accompanying music video is short, sweet, and helps bring the single’s message to life. We see Rio having fun, strolling around with what appears to be a bicycle while the lyrics appear above them. The video is fun and carefree, adding an extra element to the song.
All of this to say that Rio Romeo proves we can have fun while coming to terms with being in love with someone and not knowing what comes next.
