Kentucky based quartet, Picturesque, has released their second new song of the year, “Strange Habits.” This track comes shortly after the bands first release since 2020, “Hopeless“. On top of the release of a new single and video for “Strange Habits”, the band has also announced a new six track EP IYKYK (‘if you know, you know’) due out April 21st on Equal Vision Records.
“These songs were written during the earlier days of the pandemic,” explains Williamson. “We’re notoriously slow songwriters, but since we were locked inside, we decided to be productive. So we locked ourselves in a room and wrote, and this is what came out. Musically, I think every artist kind of hits the threshold for the scene that they came up in, or the particular demographic of their listeners. We asked ourselves ‘How do we break out of just being a rock band, or a Warped Tour band?’ Because we don’t want to be seen as that. We want to be much more.”
Kyle Hollis (vocals), Zach Williamson (guitar), Dylan Forrester (guitar), and Jordan Greenway (bass) are relentless in their exploration of alternative music. There is always a distance between the writing of a record and its release and the last few years have truly highlighted the reality of that. The six tracks on IYKYK may be only be releasing now, but they’re a very specific snapshot of the years since covid. It means that IYKYK paints a picture simultaneously of both who Picturesque are and were.
The band has this to say about their new single and what to expect this year:
“This song is a different approach for the band. We didn’t want to take it too seriously. We didn’t want it to be sad. We didn’t want it to be complicated. We just wanted to have a little fun and introduce you to our friend Kyle Hollis.”
