Philadelphia’s finest They Are Gutting a Body of Water put out new single “AMERICAN FOOD”

Date:

The prolifically pioneering shoegaze outfit They Are Gutting a Body of Water (TAGABOW) are back with a bang, a sonic exploration that expands on their current palette. The new track “AMERICAN FOOD” is accompanied by a music video shot in Texas and Philadelphia completely on film.

If you are familiar with TAGABOW and front man Douglas Dulgarian, experimental electronic genre bending will come as no surprise. Into the new TAGABOW track, Dulgarian adds flavors seen on some of his other projects Echotracer, God of War, and even the live interludes he plays on a board in between tracks.

“AMERICAN FOOD” opens with a twangy riff which repeats throughout the track before the drums kick in. A unique vocal approach is taken as Dulgarian poetically expounds a raw spoken-word monologue only to be interrupted by the haunting auto-tuned refrain, “tell me there’s a better one / and I’ll go get my gun.” This is where a beat drop and heavy guitars are replaced by light record scratching and sampling.

The mellow, lo-fi recording and the grainy filmic music video accentuate each other to the max. With this aching electronic Americana track, TAGABOW continue to stay ahead of the game musically, stylistically, and creatively.

Dulgarian is also the founder of Philly record label Julia’s War Recordings, a label focused on providing physical media for boundary-pushing artists and bringing together a collective of rockers in the Philadelphia music scene. Tickets for Julia’s War Fest go on sale Friday, May 23rd. Check out the details on their Instagram and Website.
