In May, Paul Russell and Saweetie dropped the fresh and fine “That Girl.” With its contagious dance beats and bold lyrics, “That Girl” was a fun way to kick off the summer. Plus, it serves as the perfect theme song for anyone getting into a summer fling or looking to make this summer their own. Temperatures are definitely heating up the further we get into the season, but Paul Russell is not looking to cool things down anytime soon.
For his next release, Paul is ready to spoil a girl he is crushing on, and in ways that she never thought possible. He goes all out on “Carat Cake,” singing, “Aye girl, what you on? / A lil sand, a lil sun, caravan to the club.” He also claims, “Saw you in that dress, I guess I just had an epiphany,” and continues, “What’s up? / What’s wrong? / I’m handsome and I’m young.” While the promise of riches and spoils can be a turn-off to some, knowing Paul, it is clear that he is just having some fun. The track has that bubbly personality that Paul has flaunted on past hits like “Lil Boo Thang” and “Say Cheese,” along with super lively vocals and blinged-out lyrics. You will definitely be ready to turn this one up at the party.
About “Carat Cake,” Paul explains,
“‘Carat Cake’ is a song made for birthdays and weddings and celebrations. It’s for the moments when you want to dance and give your all to someone you care about, which is what the song is about. We wrote part of the song in the house where ‘September’ was written, and we hope it can become part of the cannon of joyful, funky songs you can drink champagne to.”
