Orla Gartland is taking fans into her world!
Gartland shocked fans with a surprise release of a new album documentary, giving fans an intimate and behind-the-scenes glimpse into her acclaimed 2024 sophomore album, Everybody Needs a Hero.
Written over the course of a year, Everybody Needs a Hero brought Gartland back with her longtime collaborators Tom Safford and Peter Miles. The film captures how Gartland, Safford, and Miles blended ideas and techniques, starting in Gartland’s studio in London and being finalized in Miles’ creative sanctuary, Middle Farm Studios.
With a culmination of a year’s work, Gartland reminisced on the documentary’s release day,
“My friend Em joined us down at the studio to film some of us recording ‘Everybody Needs a Hero,’ my second full-length record. Documenting these moments of the process, both big and small, felt important even just for my own sake – when you come out of focusing on something that hard, the whole experience feels like a fever dream, so I loved watching it back. I’m incredibly proud of this record; I pushed myself to make something that represented where I was at that point in my life and with the help of my very talented friends I think I did exactly that.”
Everybody Needs a Hero comes on the heels of a remarkable year for Gartland. Recently, she took home the prestigious 2025 Ivor Novello Award for her song “Mine” and received nominations at the 2025 AIM Independent Awards, A2IM Libera Awards, and the RTÉ Choice Music Prize. Currently on tour with Glass Animals, Gartland has left a scorching trail across the festival circuit with electrifying performances at Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Kilby Block Party, Hinterland Festival, and Outside Lands.
Gartland’s album, Everybody Needs a Hero, recounts her journey of self-discovery and finding emotional independence while in a long-term relationship. The documentary delves deeper into Gartland’s pilgrimage of self, including the complexities of compromise, identity, and connection.
The Everybody Needs a Hero documentary, directed by Emily Marcovecchio and shot at Middle Farm Studios, is a 20-minute viewing of an artist truly coming into their own. Equal parts introspective and empowering, it is well worth watching. Watch Everybody Needs a Hero.
