Normandie ushers in a new era with “Sellout”

Date:

Swedish metalcore outfit Normandie is back with their new, independently released single “Sellout.” This marks their first new music since the release of their most recent album, Dopamine, in February 2024. Needless to say, fans are excited to hear something new after more than a year of nonstop touring and festival performances.

“Sellout” is a direct confrontation of the state of the modern music industry and how, as Normandie puts it, “you gotta bet on a meme stock / or blow up on TikTok / to pay for your house.” This criticism of an algorithm-based music industry hits home at a time when platforms like TikTok have taken over, and artists seemingly have to bow down to the social media gods to even get noticed these days. These ideas are perfectly summed up by the lyrics, particularly “pray to your phone” and “if you’re gonna sell out / you better sell big.”

This new single also sees Normandie bring back a heavier style of music, something many fans have been excited about since the band started teasing “Sellout” on social media earlier this week. Plenty of harder breakdowns and intense harsh vocals from lead singer Philip Strand serve to usher in this new era, but the song is still melodic and catchy, true to Normandie’s signature style. We don’t blame you if it’s already stuck in your head.

Along with this energetic single, we’re hoping that more announcements from the band are in our near future; in fact, their new Instagram bio hints at it: “The Dopamine age is behind us – side effects pending.” “Sellout” is the perfect introduction to Normandie’s next steps, and we can’t wait to see where they lead.
