When 23-year-old Belgian producer and artist noevdv was a teenager, he innocently uploaded some beats to YouTube—and the rest is history. At 18, rising rapper Cl4pers sampled one of noevdv’s instrumentals, which resulted in hundreds of millions of streams. noevdv went viral, and he started building a signature sound. A couple years later, noevdv released “want u,” which was crafted out of a YouTube-only cover by Clara LaSan. It took over Instagram Reels in early 2024 and is now approaching RIAA Gold certification. Listeners yearn for noevdv’s emotion-driven sound, which consists of arrangements that amplify mood-shaped textures.
noevdv now splits his time between Belgium and Los Angeles, and he finds that this split influences his work. He takes the excitement of a new place and new opportunities and meshes it with his personal outlook on life, resulting in material for his upcoming debut EP, mulholland drive. The project, out June 5, captures a series of coming-of-age moments for noevdv, all inspired by his transition and adjustment to a new city and new part of his career. Fans could hear this sound through noevdv’s recent release “without me,” which featured EU vocalist Seniah.
As noevdv gears up for the release of his EP, he is dropping “nobody like you.” The single was written and produced in collaboration with the collective behind bees & honey, who brought out the conflicted emotions that noevdv was going through at the time. Listeners can feel this tension through the heavy, atmospheric production and darker textures. Meanwhile, noevdv gives us light vocals, highlighting the way he felt out of place once arriving in Los Angeles. We hear lines like, “Night drive with nowhere to go,” “Planes looking like UFOs,” and “French kisses like déjà vu,” as noevdv takes in the energy and creativity around him. In the end, he claims, “I ain’t never met nobody like you.”
Elaborating on the inspiration behind “nobody like you,” noevdv shares,
“I was excited but also overwhelmed. The song ended up being about that feeling—like you’re in love with something but still unsure where you stand in it.”
