Music in the Maritimes: Who and what is Sommo Festival?

Date:

Main Stage Lineup

All the way up on the north shore of Prince Edward Island, Canada, sits somewhat of a hidden gem of a music festival. Sommo Festival, presented by Whitecap Entertainment, returns for its fourth year this fall on September 11th and 12th, 2026 in the town of Cavendish, just outside of the island’s larger cities of Summerside and Charlottetown. The festival is one of two yearly festivals in Cavendish, the other being the country-heavy Cavendish Beach Music Festival in July.

Though maybe lesser known than some of Canada’s other festivals, such as Montréal’s Osheaga Music and Arts Festival, Sommo has brought some serious talent to PEI over the past few years, and this year is no exception.

The festival announced their main stage headliners back in December, with organizers landing rock duo Twenty One Pilots and recently on-the-rise pop star sombr as Friday’s and Saturday’s headliners, respectively.

Coming into the new year, Sommo Festival has slowly rolled out the rest of the main stage lineup, in addition to the lineup for the second “Sandbar Stage”. Joining Twenty One Pilots on the main stage on Friday will be Kaleo, Hazlett, Leith Ross, Baby Nova, and Kellie Loder.

Joining sombr will be Natasha Bedingfield, Lawrence, Wild Rivers, Sofia Camara, and Loviet.

Friday’s Sandbar Stage headliner will be Down With Webster and Saturday’s Jade LeMac, with other Sandbar Stage highlights including MARIS, Melt, Edgehill, and Flower Face

Sommo Festival is not just your typical cookie-cutter music festival. They call themselves “PEI’s Celebration of Music, Food, and Drink” and feature live demonstrations by celebrity chefs, local food trucks, craft beer, cocktails, and more.

While the official list of food and drink vendors hasn’t been released yet, fans can get an idea of what they might see by looking at 2025’s Culinary Lineup. Guests ranged from vegan chef and content creator Lauren Toyota demonstrating her “Crabless Cakes” all the way to Chef Kaela Barnett from local Charlottetown establishment Vicinato Ristorante cooking up some parmesan wheel pasta. VIP guests got to enjoy an exclusive menu by Chef Kyle Campbell from Halifax restaurant The Barrington Steakhouse & Oyster Bar. There were lots of vegan, gluten-free, and dairy free options available, and we anticipate that to be true this year, too.

Those ready to make the journey to Sommo Festival this year have a few options for both travel and accommodation. PEI might be a hike to get to for some, but the beautiful beaches, lighthouses, and renowned seafood make it worth the visit (even if not for the festival). The Charlottetown airport is about a 30-minute drive from the festival grounds, while the larger Moncton International Airport is a bit under 2 hours away by car.

Charlottetown offers its own rideshare company, Kari, in addition to taxis. For fans travelling from Nova Scotia, Sommo has partnered with Northumberland Ferries as another way to get there.

Sommo is also a camping festival for fans who want it to be! Route 6 Ranch is working with Sommo Festival to provide campsites and shuttle passes to festivalgoers.

3-day GA, GA+, and VIP as well as single-day tickets are still available for purchase, as well as additional premium experiences like Sunroof Weekends and Sunroof Tables. Tickets, in addition to camping and shuttle passes, can be purchased here.
