Motörhead unearth lost 1976 recordings to celebrate 50th anniversary

Date:

Motörhead is celebrating their 50th anniversary with the release of a long-lost studio recording from 1976, featuring the band’s classic Three Amigos lineup: Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clark, and Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor. The new album, The Manticore Tapes, is set to be released on June 27 and is available for pre-order here

Recorded at Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s Manticore Studios in London, this raw session marked the very first time the trio captured their sound on tape. Thought to be lost for nearly five decades, these recordings have now been restored by longtime collaborator Cameron Webb and masted by Andrew Alekel.

At the time, the band’s future was hanging by a thread. With the help of then-manager and former The Who roadie Frank Kennington, the struggling Motörhead took a chance on these recordings, never realizing they were setting the foundation for the band’s legacy. The session captured the band’s raw energy on songs that would stay in their live set for years.

Now, fans can experience the roots of Motörhead’s legacy with this historic release – bringing one of rock’s most legendary stories full circle 50 years later.
