Vietnamese-American artist Monét Ngo returns to the scene with a new single titled “Older.” An ethereal and haunting indie/bedroom pop track, it explores the ache of young love and the quiet desperation as two people grow further apart from each other.

Hazily dreamy textured guitars, soul-rattling reverb and bass, and enthralling piano mixed with Ngo’s raw, intimate vocals help him express his message. It’s a song seemingly caught in a battle between a heart-throbbing ballad and a guttural scream-like plea to bring back what once was, knowing fully you can’t make someone stay forever. It’s better to let go while you still have the ability to do so.

With his work deeply rooted in nostalgia and vulnerable storytelling, Ngo is steadily becoming a pillar of inspiration for emotional, coming-of-age lyrics and production. Monét’s continuation of his unique combination of R&B, alt-rock, indie, and pop-punk evokes a nostalgic longing that permeates this track. It creates a sense of comforting solidarity for listeners who may be feeling a little lost in life.
