Minus the Bear releases music video for “Drilling” ahead of deluxe reissue

Date:

Minus The Bear has released a new music video for “Drilling,” a track from their Menos el Oso project. Although new to many listeners, the song has been around for more than 20 years. Its release symbolizes letting something go and allowing it to flourish on its own.

The string-heavy, bass-driven track carries a summery, vibey touch. Lyrically, it reflects on life’s twists and chaos, encouraging confidence, optimism and trust that things will work themselves out.

Directed and edited by Cheyne Smith and produced by Minus the Bear and Do Better for Artists, the video features the band performing in their longtime rehearsal space — the same one they’ve used since writing the song two decades ago.

The “Drilling” music video is part of the rollout for the deluxe reissue of Menos el Oso, the band’s 2005 breakout album, set for release Aug. 22 via Suicide Squeeze Records.

Formed in the early 2000s by members of Botch, Kill Sadie and Sharks Keep Moving, the Seattle-based group became known for blending a wide range of styles. They released six critically acclaimed full-length albums before announcing their retirement in 2018, following the release of their fourth and final EP, Fair Enough. In 2021, they embarked on a farewell tour, later released as the live album Farewell.

With “Drilling,” fans get a fresh reminder of the band’s sound — and a reason to look forward to the deluxe reissue.
