Since dropping their much-anticipated album, God Save the Gun, last October, Militarie Gun have been among the hardest-working bands in the industry. From their high-energy Tiny Desk set to recent tours with Joyce Manor, Teen Mortgage, and Combat, the band is making it clear they have plenty to say.
In their latest video for “Kick,” the group — alongside director, Manuel Casanova — juxtaposes energetic, black-and-white footage of fans stage-diving and dancing with street-style shots of the band performing in a park, a boxing ring, and the back of a taxi.
The video release was accompanied by a characteristically humorous, all-caps statement from frontman Ian Shelton regarding the track’s straightforward title:
“A GUY ONCE TRIED TO ASK ME ABOUT ‘KICK’ AFTER WE PLAYED IT LIVE. HE SAID, ‘WHAT WAS THAT KICK YOU IN THE FACE SONG?’ I SAID, ‘IT’S CALLED KICK,’ AND HE SAID, ‘I THOUGHT YOU SAID IT WAS CALLED IF I KICKED YOU IN THE FACE I’M SORRY I WOULD DO IT AGAIN.’ AND I SAID, ‘WELL, IT’S ACTUALLY JUST CALLED KICK.’ AND THEN HE ASKED ME IF I JUMPED HIM AT A PARTY 15 YEARS AGO, AND I TOLD HIM I WASN’T EVEN BORN YET BACK THEN.”
And there you have it. May God save the gun… Militarie Gun, that is.
