Melodic Music Monday: September 8

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Lady Gaga, “The Dead Dance”Known for frequently referencing monsters in her music, Gaga picks up where she left off with MAYHEMa predominantly dark pop record with hits like “Disease” and “Abracadabra.” On “The Dead Dance,” she builds an eerie ambience in the verses with 80s-inspired synths before fully breaking into an irresistible disco-heavy chorus where she sings, “‘Cause when you killed me inside / That’s when I came alive / Yeah, the music’s gonna bring me back from death / I’m dancing until I’m dead.”

– Germano Blanco

——

LANY, “Last Forever”LANY has us feeling like we hopped into a time machine and transported back to their self-titled era with their latest single, “Last Forever.” The single is steeped in nostalgia, almost as if it’s a love letter to the fans that have grown up with them. From the first note, longtime listeners will instantly recognize frontman Paul Klein’s tender vocals that put LANY on the map.

– Reagan Denning

——

Alec Benjamin, “The Knife In My Back” – “The Knife In My Back” definitely takes fans back to that time with the nostalgic rhythm and cool flow combined with aching lyrics. Benjamin wrote this song about his unexpected friendship breakup; it was a very treasured relationship that ended in betrayal. He takes the listeners through that heavy emotion as he realizes what has happened: “Pull your knife out of my back / Your heart’s gone black / I was just surprised at how you turned on me so fast.”

– Gabi Cuevas

——

Loud Luxury and Natalie Jane, “UH OH!” – With “UH OH!,” Loud Luxury close out the summer in style. Out now via Casablanca Records, the song is purely made for pre-gaming or enlivening any party, as its pulsating beats and vibrant energy take center stage. Over the retro-futuristic production, pop singer-songwriter Natalie Jane describes how it feels to fall into trouble with someone you love. She sings, “When you kiss me, uh oh / Lose my self-control / When you touch me, uh oh / There goes all my clothes / Where we go, nobody’s ever gotta know.”

– Christine Sloman
