Melodic Music Monday: October 13

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Madison Beer, “bittersweet” – From the opening line “Can’t believe it ends this way,” Beer pulls listeners into the raw aftermath of something coming to an end, but she does not do it in the typical sad girl anthem way that many artists try to deliver. Instead, “bittersweet” thrives in the emotional gray area, showing that she is on the line between resentment and relief.

– Allyson Franzo

——

elijah woods, “I Miss You” – “I Miss You” was first teased on Instagram and TikTok last month before its official release. The melancholic track sees woods holding onto love despite all odds. The multi-faceted singer-songwriter delivers a beautifully emotional vocal performance as he puts his heart on his sleeve through raw and compelling lyricism. The mid-tempo production adds to the somber, yet hopeful reality of wanting to rekindle an old flame while missing what once was.

– Amber Bintliff

——

Estella Dawn, “Drunk & Messy” – “Drunk & Messy” is able to sit in a dark place without being swallowed by its own sorrow, giving listeners grounded lyrics and an interesting pace in instrumentation. The single by the singer and producer continues on a stream of music releases that has firmly established Estella Dawn in the alt and indie pop scene.

– Ezra Kendrick

——

Joe Hicks, “Heart in Two” – Here, Joe sheds light on the impact of social media culture on mental health. It’s all too common for people to post all aspects of their lives online, with an emphasis on the good parts. For those going through a tough time, these posts can be harmful, as they can evoke a sense of personal failure. Over the forward-moving music, Joe sings, “‘Cause everyone I see, they’ve got it all figured out” and “I want to know / Is anybody telling the truth?” He’s hopeful for answers but can’t shake the weight of the questions.

– Christine Sloman
