Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:
——
Ruel, “I Can Die Now” – Ruel has released his newest single, “I Can Die Now.” Fans have began to speculate that the release of this single will be the first one from what they hope is his second full length studio album. When announcing the new song, Ruel took the time to thank his fans for being patient with him when it came to releasing new music. Going on to promise that the single and all other music to come will be worth all of the time that he took to create it.

Em Beihold, “Brutus” – On “Brutus,” Em wrestles with envy and jealousy. While the music maintains quaint melodies and charming vocals, much like “Numb Little Bug,” the lyrics are more on the spiteful side. Em sings, “I wish that I could say that I’m not the jealous type / But you’re Cesar and I’m Brutus, minus that part with the knife,” and claims, “Wishing you the worst has never really worked.” In the end, she declares, “If I’m speaking honestly, I wish I had your life,” embodying the “if you can’t beat them, join them” concept.

AJR, “Betty” – “Betty” is an emotional gut-punch wrapped in a cinematic pop anthem. It tackles the pressure of forever-love with raw honesty and self-aware charm. The DIY music video? Filmed right in their attic and directed by the band themselves.

Waterparks, “RED GUITAR” – “RED GUITAR” feels like an explosive smack to the face from the get-go. Knight hits the audience with “What’s up, I’m Awsten and I’m fucking exhausted!” in its first verse, already signaling that they’re in for a wild ride (as with any Waterparks track). “RED GUITAR” follows Knight as he looks back at his younger self and reflects on the ruthless reality of the music industry. The lyrics tackle questions of whether all the turmoil was worth it as Knight expresses, “So hard to remember why I even do this, oh yeah / The delusion that I’ve had since I was thirteen / That I could write a song and they’d put me on a magazine.”
