Melodic Music Monday: February 9

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

sombr, “Homewrecker” – The track explores the messiness of love, especially when you love someone who isn’t yours. sombr wrestles with trying to take a moral high ground (“I don’t wanna talk down on your lover / I don’t wanna be a homewrecker”) while also knowing that something is meant to be (“I just know I can be better, be better, be better”).

– Madison Haynie

——

Mitski, “I’ll Change For You” – “I’ll Change For You” is a midtempo, bossa nova-influenced track where Mitski’s soulful vocals shine over a bass-guitar accompaniment. Lyrically, she confesses to drinking and begging her lover to take her back. With a touch of sadness, she sings in the chorus, “‘Cause I’ll do anything / For you to love me again / If you don’t like me now / I will change for you.”

– Germano Blanco

——

Holly Humberstone, “To Love Somebody” – The song follows the realization that a love lost is simply another beautiful part of the human experience. It boldly proclaims that loving hard is what it means to be alive. The human heart was meant to experience emotion.

– Madison Haynie

——

The Happy Fits, “Tenderly”The Happy Fits continue to treat their fans to new, delicious tunes: the New Jersey band released their latest Lovesick bonus track, “Tenderly,” just in time for the loveliest holiday of the year, sharing, “We hope it keeps you warm through these winter blues.”

– Emily McCormack
