Melodic Music Monday: December 8

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

The Band CAMINO, “Afterthought” – The song follows a crushing narrative, using movie references and analogies to emphasize roles in this “relationship.” It even mentions the band’s latest single, in the first verse “I’m at your door, it’s 12:34 / And you turn me away.” Capturing the same essence of a live setting, the song culminates in a tragic bridge, slow to fade away after a momentous final chorus. “Afterthought” is honest and unfiltered, something The Band Camino have been accustomed to since their introspective earlier EPs. An ear-worm and a gut-punch all in one, “Afterthought” was a well-loved nostalgic Camino classic before it even hit the stage or stereo.

– Shauna Hilferty

——

Huddy, Vic Fuentes – “Burn the Ballroom Down” – The track leans toward a familiar 2010s emo vibe, with bold and heavy instrumentals that are complemented by Huddy’s vocals, full of anger and vulnerability. Throughout the song, he can be seen blaming himself for feeling the pressure of fame and how destructive the industry is. Lines like, “you did this to yourself / so run like hell / no one can help / let’s burn the ballroom down” add dramatics to the song and turn up the intensity.

– Riley Basile

——

Evan Kreutz, “deja vu” – Lyrically, “deja vu” captures the moment of realization when life becomes monotonous, and every experience feels familiar. On the bridge, he dares to break free from the feeling, singing “You only got this one life / But I’m too scared to know / All the memories we’d write / Get off the telephone.”

– Germano Blanco

——

Wintur, “turn a page” – Reminiscent of “Heather” by Conan Gray, “turn a page” evokes a nostalgic feeling with its acoustic guitar-driven instrumentation and stacked vocals that convey the emotional exhaustion of the failed romance. Through confessional lyricism, Wintur makes the song a deeply intimate listen as he sings, “Our second goodbye, I thought we turned a page / Was it all lies trapped in picture frames? / I can’t write one more sad song about you.”

– Germano Blanco
