Martin’s growth as an artist wasn’t linear; he had to restart and regroup to find his place in the dedication-heavy realm of musicianship. When he was 19, he developed a passion for songwriting and released his debut single, “Nostalgia,” which landed him a major label record deal with London-based Parlophone. However, Martin recalls that during that time, he struggled mentally with his identity as an artist, ultimately making the decision to step away from the project. During his break, he collaborated as a co-writer and producer with artists like Lizzy McAlpine and BTS. In 2020—when everything slowed down and he had time to refocus on his artistry—he launched his new project, Martin Luke Brown.
Turning the page to a new chapter of his life, Martin dove headfirst into creating tracks that are unapologetically him, infused with authenticity and a natural inclination for introspection. “back 2 ya” is another go-with-the flow, lively anthem similar to the indie R&B/lo-fi pop eccentricity found in the works of artists like Mac DeMarco, Steve Lacy and Hotel Ugly.
