Having the ability to speak and sing in French, English, and Arabic, Laraw is a natural when it comes to expressing herself. After years of studying music production and sound design and playing video games, the singer-songwriter has been able to release music that perfectly incorporates the different cultures and scenes she grew up around. Her genre-defying singles have definitely cemented her experimental sound, receiving much praise from the likes of Elle Quebec, The Line of Best Fit, and American Songwriter. Following up last year’s “This Is How I Lost My Friends,” Laraw is giving us “Scissors.”
On “Scissors,” Laraw tells us about a betrayal from a loved one. Over a fuzzy indie pop sound, Laraw melodically sings, “Stuck your scissors in my heart / Now it’s tearing me apart / Oh, you cut me into pieces.” As we process all of the emotion, Laraw caps off the moment by asking, “Why’d you cut me into pieces?” leaving us feeling for her even further. “‘Scissors’ is about the grief of having a loved one completely destroy you – knowing they will, and just letting it happen. It’s for sure the most important song I’ve ever written and marked a new chapter of my life. I got to actually meet myself, grow, and learn that the first person you should always love is yourself.”
