Julia DeTomaso shares captivating indie pop single “Way Too Late”

Date:

Julia DeTomaso has released “Way Too Late,” an intimate indie pop song about not being able to communicate your feelings at the right moment. In the same vein as Gracie Abrams and Taylor Swift, the new single highlights DeTomaso’s captivating storytelling and musicianship.

Written and co-produced by DeTomaso herself, “Way Too Late” is a testament to her songwriting talent with confessional lyricism and instantly singable pop melodies. At the same time, the subtle changes in the instrumentation throughout the track make it a pleasantly unpredictable listen. The song opens with an upbeat drum pattern over ambient synths before turning into an acoustic guitar-driven ballad in the chorus where she sings, “I find I get in the way of / Things I wish I would have said / Out loud instead of in my head / I guess that would′ve made more sense.”

After debuting in 2019 with “Dancing In The Rain,” a collaboration with German DJ and producer Da Hool, with almost two million streams on Spotify, Julia DeTomaso took a break from releasing new music until this year. Her recent string of singles marks a new artistic direction though, and “Way Too Late” further proves that, contrary to the message of the song, taking her time has clearly paid off.
