East London songstress Cherie Jones, formally known as JONES, released her latest EP, In The Moment last Friday via Unity Records. This is her 10th EP in as many years, and she is so far enjoying high praises from The Fader, Clash, ThisisRnB, and now Melodic Magazine, too. JONES began writing songs at the tender age of 15, and can be likened to Lykke Li and Yukimi Nagano in her more recent works.
JONES’ single “Moonlight” is a highlight of In The Moment, creatively illustrating heartbreak over a simple beat (“On Saturday, we were fine / But by Tuesday, you said goodbye / How am I gonna make it through the night? / Just wanna dance for tonight”). Her silky vocals and absolutely stacked harmonies are angelic, and the rich synths and dry drum mix create a very serene, laidback sound. The mix itself bears a lot of lavish Motown charm in its simplicity.
Her early influences like Mariah Carey, Bob Marley and Otis Redding really shine through on this track. The last decade of exploring the world and honing her craft continues to pay off as fans witness her continual growth into a formidable force in the alternative R&B space.
In The Moment is available to stream wherever you listen to music.
