JOA remembers her “Golden Years” in new single

Date:

In new single “Golden Years,” JOA further establishes herself as a promising new voice in the indie pop scene. The Oslo-born artist creates a delicate reflection of not appreciating what you have until it’s gone, perfectly aligning with the exploration of adolescence featured in her upcoming album.

At only 20 years old, JOA blends contemporary and pop melodies to make something commercially successful yet genuinely moving. The track demonstrates lyrical simplicity while maintaining raw honesty.

Part of the upcoming EP that serves as a farewell to her teenage years, “Golden Years” fits perfectly with her other tracks such as “Previous Problems” and “A Little Kinder.” The production of the track strikes a great balance between raw acoustic and polished pop, allowing JOA’s voice to remain the centerpiece. She shares more:

It’s very lyrically orientated, and it’s only really played with instruments in the room. It’s very organic – but it has a pop structure, and the writing is pop. Melodically, it’s a little folky too.”

Fans of artists like Julia Michaels and Phoebe Bridgers might recognize JOA’s narrative approach and melodic skill and draw similar comparisons. “Golden Years” doubled down on what she promised: relatable, heartfelt songs that resonate across the board while establishing herself as a bold, genuine new voice in indie and contemporary pop.
