Izzy Escobar releases bright, shiny single, “Sunny In London”

Date:

Boston singer-songwriter Izzy Escobar is making a splash in the contemporary pop music scene with her second single, “Sunny In London,” a catchy tune about making the most of a bad situation. Escobar released the track on Aug. 29 via Artist House as a part of her forthcoming EP, which will tell a wider story of betrayal, grief, and healing.

Escobar has earned a great deal of attention on social media with her musical improvisations, which is where “Sunny In London” originated. Her piano chops and lightning-fast thinking are fertile ground for impressive rhymes and melodies, as she has shown with this track. Not every line landed perfectly, but lyrics like, “if it’s so easy to walk away / then baby, you weren’t built to stay,” and “met a few mates at the pub next door / had a quick beer, but it turned to four,” are a big part of the soulful singer’s clever charm.

The blend of melodic elements of current pop with more traditional pop sensibilities makes “Sunny In London” an incredibly easy listen. Opening with an orchestral arrangement including a bold, rolling timpani, then crashing in with a bubblegum pop beat paired with rich, velvety vocals ensured a wide range of sounds right from the top. Other than a couple harmonies that didn’t quite sit right in the chord progression, and perhaps a little bit of sonic overload towards the end of the track, “Sunny In London,” is super enjoyable, and well suited to any relaxed, upbeat playlist.

“Sunny In London” is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can catch Izzy Escobar live at Oceans Calling festival in Maryland on Sept. 26. Tickets are available here.
