Irish rock band Inhaler has just shared their beautiful cover of Kavinsky’s “Nightcall.” They recorded their version of the track in early June during their trip to Australia when they were invited to perform on the radio station Triple J’s Like A Version.
The song is featured in the opening sequence of the film Drive, and fans fell in love with the reimagined version, leading the band to release it on streaming services ahead of its physical release on Dec. 12. “Nightcall” will come out as a B-side on the strictly limited edition release of the “Hole In The Ground” 7″ via Geffen Records.
Frontman Elijah Hewson explained why they chose to cover “Nightcall,” saying,
“I think because it was on a movie soundtrack, that kind of felt different to covering just a normal pop song. So that made us kind of lean into it a bit.”

“Nightcall” follows Inhaler’s recent panoramic rock single, “Hole In The Ground,” released ahead of the band’s sold-out show at the iconic London venue Royal Albert Hall on Halloween. “Hole In The Ground” was the first new music fans heard from Inhaler after their third album, Open Wide, came out in February of this year. It was recorded with the album’s producer, Kid Harpoon, at Abbey Road Studios and debuted at #1 on the Official Irish Albums Chart. Eli Hewson continues:
“To us, ‘Hole In The Ground’ is a song that was born out of our stream of consciousness. Some time away from writing allowed us to go into the studio with a sort of blank slate which felt inspiring. It can be hard to talk about the meaning of your own songs sometimes but we see it as something fragile growing amongst a wreckage. Or the last blurry memory you have of a person. It’s sort of a meditation on and keeping yourself awake to life.”
Keep an eye out for the limited edition physical release of “Hole In The Ground” and listen to Inhaler’s cover of “Nightcall.”
