Ian Cobiella is a Los Angeles-based, classically trained musician turned singer-songwriter. He’s deeply influenced by his roots as a Cuban-Bolivian artist, along with the rising folk alternative scene. His new single, “Trial By Fire”, is about surrendering to uncertainty. Cobiella finds that no matter how hard we try, we can never predict the future.
“Trial By Fire” stuns with hauntingly ethereal vocals, ruminative strings of acoustic guitar, and enticing harmonies. Cobiella sings, “It’s the unknown / It swept me off of my feet / It’s the unknown / It brings me down to my knees.” The song is paired with a reflective music video that juxtaposes scenes filmed in black and white and color to represent his reality in a constant state of flux. “Trial By Fire” captures the innermost thoughts that swim just beneath the surface of Cobiella’s generation.
Revealing more about the track, Ian Cobiella confides, “I’ve recently spent some time looking at my past just for the sake of it; to be honest about it and to laugh at myself, in all of its ridiculousness and immutability. “Trial By Fire” captures exactly what that feels like––giving everything I can, getting the opposite outcome, and somehow being fine with it. I wanted to wrangle with some themes I’ve been uncomfortable exploring before. I love declarations, I love attempts; these to me hold more courage than anything. I’m giving it my all and trying my best.”
“Trial By Fire” is the latest release from Ian Cobiella who is swiftly on the rise as an artist. Collectively, he’s amassed upwards of 100k plays. It’s only just the beginning for this transcendent singer-songwriter.
