On “car crash,” Hailey finds a friend headed in the wrong direction in life. Throughout the acoustic guitar-driven track, she makes a lot of driving and road references, observing how she is “in the rearview mirror” and comparing this friend to “a deer in the headlights.” All the while, her tone remains lonely and full of premature grief, as she knows “how this ends but I can’t stop it from unfolding.” In the end, she figures, “Darling, I would warn you / But don’t know if it’s worth trying / I know the stereo is blasting / Oh, you’ll never hear the sirens.”
About “car crash,” Hailey shares,
“I wrote ‘car crash’ to capture the painfully helpless nature of watching another girl fall into the same trap that debilitated me. It felt like reliving it all over again, only this time, I was entirely paralyzed. All I could do was cross my fingers and hope she would be as lucky as I was to make it out alive.”
