A comedy movie inspired and developed by Green Day and produced by Live Nation Productions is officially in the works!
New Years Rev is a coming-of-age story centered around three friends — played by Mason Thames, Kylr Koffman, and Ryan Foust — who are on a trek to Los Angeles, where they falsely believe their band will be opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. This road trip is “rowdy and mischievous […] and filled with adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van.”
Of the movie, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong shares,
“Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of, but you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”
With projects like A Star is Born, Moonage Daydream, and Love Lizzo also created under Live Nation Productions, it’s safe to say that New Years Rev is in great company.
Described by Green Day as their “love letter to all [their] favorite road trip movies, ‘90s nostalgia, and chasing it all no matter how ridiculous it gets,” the film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. While tickets for this are sold out, the band has hinted that this is just the beginning for New Years Rev.
