Girls Behind The Rock Show is celebrating a decade of unstoppable passion, fierce empowerment, and trailblazing women and gender-diverse voices breaking barriers and amplifying dreams in the world of music. What originally started as a podcast in March 2015, GBTRS has since evolved into a non-profit that has empowered a community of underrepresented groups in the music industry to rise and make a powerful impact.
Shelby Chargin, GBTRS Founder, states:
“GBTRS turning 10 is a huge testament to the community itself. While I am so proud to have been at the helm of its infancy and through a good portion of the first decade, the true beauty of GBTRS has always been and will always be the community of active young women and gender diverse people who have consistently shown up for each other. With thousands of jobs gotten through the community and many careers started and launch through programs we’ve run, GBTRS’ legacy remains with its community and I hope that will never change.”
Since its launch in 2015, GBTRS has gone on to develop several initiatives aimed at amplifying the voices of those who have historically been marginalized in the music industry. Because of events and panels put on by GBTRS, they’ve gone on to build strong community connections through current partnerships with Turn Up Her Mic, and yours truly, Melodic Magazine. Previous partnerships have included Bonnaroo, Emo Night Brooklyn, Women in Vinyl, Mamas in Music, and °1824.
