Gal Go releases new track “barefeet” in collaboration with King Krule

Date:

Argentinian-born, London-based multi-instrumentalist Ignacio Salvadores, known as Gal Go, will be familiar to fans of King Krule as a longtime collaborator and the enigmatic saxophonist in his live band. Today Gal Go released a new EP, C los lentos featuring the track “barefeet” with Gal Go production to go along with King Krule vocals.

The full EP evokes an airy yet intimate atmosphere filled with a saturated lo-fi heaviness. “barefeet” is one of two English-language songs on the EP, the rest being sung by Gal Go in his native Spanish.

King Krule, longtime project of singer/songwriter Archie Marshall, adds his usual brooding, melancholic, darkly expressive vocals and songwriting to carry a beautifully crafted experimental soundscape from Gal Go. The ambiance is created through a carrying bass riff, slow, reverb-drenched guitar chords, and, of course, Gal Go’s signature sax sound. Probably the most unique aspect of the track is the haunting, probing expression that Gal Go creates through his method of playing. The saxophone punches and permeates, breathing out what words can’t articulate, matching the emotion in King Krule’s wistful yet guttural reaching vocals.

“barefeet” reaches its peak through musical expression tracking the intimacy of the opening line, “Next time we meet / You came with your bare feet,” all the way to screaming laments of the last lines “We were running away / I drank your tears in the rain.” There’s a rawness that comes through King Krule’s voice, an authenticity matched by Gal Go’s playing, the two working hand in hand to once again create something that I’ll never get sick of; a track to brood over and return to over and over.
