G-Flip Announces new album ‘Dream Ride,’ coming later this summer

Date:

Queer icon G Flip has announced their third studio album, Dream Ride, releasing on September 5 via AWAL Recordings. They also released “In Another Life,” the reflective third single from the album, complete with a candid visualizer.

Dream Ride was co-written/produced with G’s longtime collaborator Aidan Hogg (Sofia Isella, Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens), and is heavily inspired by the music of the 1980s. Reflecting on the upcoming album, G shared:

“I love the use of reverb, the drum tones, all the sonics, the musicality, the soloing, and big drum moments. I also really wanted to make a world to accompany the music and storytelling. I kept asking myself, ‘Who would I have been in the 80’s? What would I wear, what haircut would I have, and what car would I drive?'”

The Australian powerhouse also shared that in their writing process, the car-themed lyrics emerged naturally, and their 80s “Butch Springsteen” fantasy built itself.

G is a multi-instrumentalist, and played all of the music on Dream Ride themself. G and Hogg have managed to create an album that unpacks their unique experience as a queer, non-binary artist, while also leaning into the 80s inspiration, embracing shiny reverb and maximalist drums. It boasts a seriously fun soundscape that will be a refreshing treat to anyone who enjoys Springsteen, Genesis, A-Ha, Tears for Fears, or other 80s pop icons.

Dream Ride will include “Disco Cowgirl,” which was met with widespread acclaim upon its release in May. The single earned praise from Billboard, Rolling Stone, and GLAAD, who named it “the song of the summer.” Queer anthem “Big Ol’ Hammer” will also appear on the record, which fans especially love for its hilarious music video featuring cameo from comedian Fortune Feimster, and appearances from a gang of other queer icons.

In support of the forthcoming album, G will appear at Montreal Pride later this summer, and at All Things Go Festival in both Washington, DC and New York.

Dream Ride is an epic new chapter in G Flip’s promising music career, and fans can’t wait to see what they’ll do next. “In Another Life” is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can pre-save Dream Ride here.
