Texas metalcore giants Fit For A King have announced their eighth studio album, Lonely God, will be released on August 1st via Solid State Records.
The band also unveiled the album’s title track, which is as brutal, angry, and heavy as ever. The track begins with echoing screams that take over as a powerful, percussion-focused beat kicks in soon after. “Lonely God” feels quite apocalyptic in nature, with lyrics detailing “They’ve got an appetite for carnage and oil in their veins / Tearing through our corpses till there’s nothing left.” It’s a brutal telling of how greed tears people apart and those in power attempt to create more of a divide rather than a solution.
This new track was released alongside a chilling new music video that visually touches upon the issues expressed in the lyrical content.
Lonely God as a whole is a rage-filled account of societal issues and the greed of those in positions of power. Vocalist Ryan Kirby shares,
“In general, ‘Lonely God’ relates to the pursuit of power. They’re trading companionship, relationships, and love for power and money. You may have all of the power and be a ‘God,’ but it’s a lonely spot because the world despises you.”
The album is authentic and personal to Fit For A King, as they’ve shared that they approached the creative process more focused on their passions and wants as a band like never before. Kirby further shared,
“All five of us have our fingerprints on this album. We found a way to balance our voices. We’ve always been genuine with the lyrics, and that’s the case again. There’s so much heart behind all of the instrumentation too. There’s definitely a lot of growth because our bond is tighter than ever.”
Lonely God celebrates Fit For A King’s strength, resilience, and defiant attitude in ways that have yet to be explored by the band in their decade-spanning career. In addition to the cutthroat title track, the album features previously released singles “No Tomorrow” and “TECHNIUM (feat. Landon Tewers)” and two upcoming collaborations with Motionless In White and Alpha Wolf. Lonely God is available for pre-order/pre-save here.
