Dominic Fike releases music video for “Great Pretender”

Date:

Dominic Fike is back again with another unique visual, proving that less really is more. The music video for “Great Pretender” from his new release Rocket via Columbia Records is a black-and-white cinematic moment that feels retro, raw, and very Dominic Fike.

It opens with Fike under running water before cutting to him behind the wheel on an uneven road, immediately setting a tone of vulnerability and exposure. There are no elaborate props and no big-budget vision; just intimate visuals and emotion in black and white. Fike sings, “Oh, you’re a great pretender, The influencer who always spoke so kindly / I’ll be your kickstand and your rider,  I’ll be your right hand and your provider, baby.”

The narrative is subtle yet deliberate, built on small details and nuances. The story is simple: a drive, a meal, a moment between people. But the questions come from what’s left unsaid. The video thrives on suggestion, with Fike choosing not to spell anything out, leaving space for us to read between the lines.

With Rocket, Dominic Fike shows his range once again. “Great Pretender” is a strong watch with its stripped-back style, showing how simple visuals can still tell his story.

Rocket is available now on streaming platforms.
