Singer Djo surprise-dropped The Crux (Deluxe) last night to streaming services, fans sharing the bittersweet emotions of the door shutting on this era.
Born Joe Keery, Djo has been teasing at something upcoming for the past few days. He had dropped three surprise singles; “Carry The Name,” “It’s Over,” and “Awake” from Sept. 8 to Sept. 10. On Thursday afternoon, the singer posted to his Instagram story that there would be something coming at midnight EST.
To most people’s surprise, at 12 a.m. on Sept. 12, The Crux (Deluxe) appeared on everyone’s streaming apps. Some fans across social media had their own theories regarding a new project, which were pleasantly confirmed last night.
The singer-actor stated that even though this is technically a new 12-song album, since it was written during the same timeframe as The Crux’s creation, it felt more like a continuation of the era rather than something entirely new.
He is quoted under his Instagram post saying that the main reason these songs were released is “for the fans. It’s a thank you for embracing the project and allowing me and my friends to live out our dream… These songs helped get me through a tumultuous time in my life and I hope they can help you get through any struggle you may be in the face of.”
