Dissonant & vulnerable: new single “wes anderson (your dog)” from boyhood.

Date:

On July 25th, New York-based artist and musician boyhood. released his new single “wes anderson (your dog)”, offering the first taste of his forthcoming EP via AWAL. Accompanying the song’s release, boyhood. announced that his sophomore EP, I Know, It’s Coming, will drop on September 14th through the UK-based independent distributor DMY Artists. To celebrate the EP launch, boyhood. will host an event featuring a live performance at a yet-to-be-disclosed venue in New York City.

boyhood.’s music blends a variety of genres, drawing from diverse inspirations to create chaotic and energetic rhythms paired with calm and soothing vocal melodies. “wes anderson (your dog)” showcases a new sonic direction, featuring primarily organic instrumentation and a more collaborative approach. The track highlights swirling, distorted guitar sounds from LA-based producer AYUSH and live drums from New York-based drummer Giulianna Iapalucci, also known as Rocco!. The song’s cohesive mix by Melina Duterte (Jay Som) and mastering by Nick Garcia further enhance its dynamic vocal performance.

boyhood. shares his inspiration behind “wes anderson (your dog)”:

“Last summer my roommates and I went to a screening of Wes Anderson’s visually lovely but thematically soulless (sorry) flop ‘Asteroid City,’ and I got so bored by the 60-minute mark that I wrote the first verse and chorus of this song over some guitar chords that were stuck in my head from earlier in the day. Feeling stuck (but free to leave) in my seat echoed the feeling of being stuck (but free to leave) a relationship that isn’t working anymore. This song is an ode to the monotony of a certain kind of cyclical dysfunction.”

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, boyhood. now calls New York City home. As a trans man, the moniker “boyhood.” is a tribute to his unique upbringing and reflects how his repressed childhood has shaped his intentional adulthood. His music project serves as an outlet for synthesizing experiences and capturing fleeting moments in time.

As boyhood. prepares for the release of I Know, It’s Coming, he delves into deeply confessional songwriting, offering listeners an introspective journey. The EP’s focus track, “Fast”, produced by Brooklyn indie rock duo Toledo and mixed by Duterte, exemplifies this exploration. The five-track EP is described by boyhood. as a reclamation of emotion, chronicling the process of emerging from a long period of depression and apathy and recommitting to growth and artistic exploration.

The release of “wes anderson (your dog)” coincides with an announcement of boyhood.’s upcoming tour dates, where he will perform live to promote his new EP. Starting September 20th, boyhood. will embark on a series of intimate performances across the East Coast, bringing his unique sound to various venues and connecting with fans on a deeper level.
