Dela Kay gives us a cheeky take on modern love with “Guilty Conscience”

Date:

Alt-pop artist Dela Kay has been in the game for over 10 years, but she believes that this past year of her career has been her “most authentic” to date. She started out in the electro-pop realm with hits like “9 out of 10” and “Make You Mine,” which put her on the map. She then went on to release more like 2019’s “All My Love,” a widely acclaimed track that charted at #49 in the Top 150 Global Artist charts for Digital Radio Tracker and in the top 10 in the Top Independent charts. In 2021, after taking some time off, Dela Kay returned with “The Worst Part,” which debuted an alternative new sound for her. Her previous singles have stayed within this genre and have accrued over 2M streams collectively. She is definitely hitting her stride and plans to release more singles through the end of the year, her latest being “Guilty Conscience.”

Written in Dela Kay’s hometown of Nashville with Nick Cozine (Iann Dior, mgk), Jake Finch (boygenius, Ashe) and co-produced by GRAMMY award-winning producer and songwriter Stefano Pigliapoco, “Guilty Conscience” is a cheeky take on modern love. Throughout, Dela Kay calls out someone who brings all the mess and the drama to a relationship. With confident and playful vocals, she sings, “Are you dumb or just addicted? / So far over your head / Your sorrys don’t mean shit / Choke on your guilty conscience” trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on. It’s a high-energy, rhythmic, and melodic single overall that will have you playfully singing along by the end.

About “Guilty Conscience,” Dela Kay explains,

“‘Guilty Conscience’ came from a very personal place. I wanted to say everything I’d never say and get it off my chest—funny, cheeky, but real. Everyone has experienced betrayal, and this song talks about the kind that happens online too—virtual cheating, gaslighting, all that messy stuff.

“I hope people hear it and feel seen, entertained, and maybe even a little empowered to call out the chaos in their own lives.”
