Dean Lewis releases emotionally charged piano ballad “Hurt So Bad”

Date:

Following the success of his #2 ARIA-charting album The Epilogue, Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis returns with the deluxe edition of the record and a new single, “Hurt So Bad.” Released July 11, the track serves as the emotional closer to a trilogy of heartbreak songs that began with “Be Alright” and continued with “Hurtless.”

Rooted in simple, affecting piano, “Hurt So Bad” leans into the raw vulnerability that’s defined much of Lewis’ work. His vocal delivery is restrained but impactful, complementing the song’s message about loving someone so deeply that you lose yourself in the process. According to Lewis, the track explores “giving everything you have and [someone] just disappearing out of your life and dealing with the aftermath of that.”

The release arrives alongside a music video shot in Malibu Creek State Park, directed by Sean Loaney, Lewis’ brother and longtime creative collaborator. Visually stripped-back and scenic, the video mirrors the song’s introspective tone without pulling attention away from it.

The deluxe version of The Epilogue features five additional songs, including streaming successes like “With You” and “I Hate That It’s True.” Also included are Lewis’ recent single, “Truth” and a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris,” which has become a favorite at live shows.

Lewis is currently performing across Europe, with recent stops at festivals like Isle of Wight and Rock Werchter. His North American tour dates are rescheduled for early 2026.
