Christian Hayes tries to get over heartbreak on “65 on the Interstate”

Date:

With the holidays coming up, cuffing season is in full swing. People out there are wanting someone to share the splendors of the season with, someone to decorate with, dress up with, and snuggle up with as the weather turns cold. This time of year can undeniably bring out strong thoughts about relationships, and when it comes to Christian Hayes, the folk-pop artist has shared plenty of those thoughts. Back in August, he released “Good As It Gets,” which was about the beauty of letting love unfold at its own pace. There was also “Caroline, Oh Caroline” from September, which found Christian reminiscing about what could have been.

On his latest single “65 on the Interstate,” Christian tries to get over heartbreak. Alongside co-writers Jack Riley (Cameron Whitcomb, Grace VanderWaal) and folk singer-songwriter Chance Emerson, Christian highlights the light and the dark that can come from the end of a relationship. Over lively guitar, synth, and bass work, he sings, “This whole world just keeps on spinning / This ole heart keeps getting broke / I’m not saying I need fixing / I’m just asking for some hope.” In the end, he is going “65 on the interstate,” but where he decides to go from there is up to him.

Telling us more about the single, Christian shares,

“‘65 on the Interstate’ is about learning not to fall into the same old patterns when it comes to relationships or their endings. At the same time, it’s about acknowledging that the world keeps spinning and a new chapter is on its way. So as much as a breakup might hurt, it’s never the end of the world.”

“65 on the Interstate” is out now via Capitol Records. You can listen to it here.
