All summer long, fans have been lucky to experience the alt-pop force that is Charlotte Sands. In June, she released pop-rock banger “HUSH,” a single that is already a favorite amongst her millions of monthly listeners. She then followed up the release with “neckdeep” in August, which flaunted her exceptionable ability to mix intimate thoughts and feelings with dynamic melodies and choruses. In between, she ventured out on the idobi Radio Summer School Tour, where she was a featured headliner. It’s sad that all the summer fun has to come to an end, but with “Afterlife,” Charlotte proves that nothing is ever over until you say it’s over.
On “Afterlife,” Charlotte taps into her spiritual side. Over a cool mix of acoustic and electric elements, like earnest acoustic guitar strums and punk rock drum beats, she describes what it is like to find warmth and familiarity in someone in a time of need and how magnetic it can feel. Basically, when you find someone who you can connect with so well, you don’t want to let them go—even if the universe fights against you. She sings, “Promise that you’ll find me / Somewhere on the other side / We can keep on trying / Someday, we might get it right / If there’s no survivors and we don’t make it out alive / Promise that you’ll find me somewhere in the afterlife.”
Giving us more details about “Afterlife,” Charlotte explains,
“It’s about a connection so deep it feels eternal, like your souls have met a thousand times before, in every universe and across every timeline. It’s about the rare and beautiful certainty that no matter what this lifetime holds, you’ll always find your way back to each other again—in the next life and in every one after that.”
