Buffalo Traffic Jam find “Comfort in Misery” in debut single with Arista Records

Date:

Formed in Bozeman, Montana, modern folk duo Buffalo Traffic Jam started out as innocent jam sessions between two college students. These students were Frankie Cassidy and Nathan Ross, who found that they had a mutual love for storytelling and raw, acoustic music. When they weren’t attending classes at Montana State University, they were creating authentic songs that reflected the music they loved. Pretty soon, they released their self-titled debut EP, a project that showcased their stripped-back style and emotionally-driven sound. A few months later, when they dropped “Forgot Your Roots,” Buffalo Traffic Jam started to go viral. In this bout of popularity, they connected with Arista Records and were signed to a record deal. Now, they are ready to make their Arista debut with “Comfort in Misery.”

A compelling combination of heartfelt lyrics and emotive folk music, “Comfort in Misery” is an example of what Buffalo Traffic Jam do best. They let the power of the song take hold, without overdoing or underdelivering. Fans can feel raw emotions stir within as they take in the warm acoustic strums and piano work that adorn the track. All the while the lyrics tell a bittersweet story, as heard in lines like, “Just tell me that you need me / Just tell me that you won’t leave / There’s lies in your nicotine / God damn it, I can’t breathe / Cheap cigarettes and gasoline / You find comfort in misery.”

About the single, Frankie mentions,

“Sometimes, rough patches in life seem like they’ll never end. Days are exactly the same each time you wake up, and you feel stuck. This rough patch slowly becomes all you know, and there’s no escape. Opportunities can present themselves, yet you don’t care for them because you find comfort in the misery. This is exactly what our new single ‘Comfort in Misery’ explores. I, too, found myself in a rut that I couldn’t get out of, and we hope this song might help you get out.”

In September, Buffalo Traffic Jam will head out with rising country artist Dylan Gossett on ‘The Westward Tour.’ The tour kicks off on September 11 in Birmingham, but Buffalo Traffic Jam’s first night on the tour will be on September 22 in Pittsburgh. From there, they will make stops in cities like Indianapolis, Detroit, and Denver before wrapping up in Phoenix on November 16. Tickets and the full list of tour dates can be found here.
