Bleachers are back, baby! The band dropped their brand new song “you and forever,” the first single from their fifth studio album, everyone for ten minutes, due out May 22 via Dirty Hit.
The track, written and produced by Jack Antonoff, is a love anthem about finding the one person who makes life feel survivable when everything else feels hopeless. To me, it reads like: the world is brutal and the future is terrifying, but loving you makes me believe in something permanent. It’s romantic, sure, but it’s also survival mode romance — the kind where love isn’t just a feeling, it’s the thing you cling to when everything else starts slipping.
Opening almost like a church hymn, “you and forever” starts out quiet before quickly turning into something huge. It’s guitar and drum-heavy in the best way, slowly building until it hits the bridge — easily my favorite part of the entire song. That’s where everything really cracks open, and Antonoff delivers one of the most striking lines on the track: “For crying out loud, I was crying out for a savior / No Jesus Christ, no Roman gods, they cower / and you let me in.” It’s dramatic, but it works, because it feels earned. In that moment, the song stops sounding like a love story and starts sounding like a lifeline.
To accompany the single, the band also dropped a music video directed by Alex Lockett, starring Antonoff’s wife, Margaret Qualley. The video mostly follows Qualley dancing around an apartment with their dog, Smokey, while Antonoff wanders the streets alone. At one point, he gets randomly punched by a stranger and ends up caught in a torrential downpour, while Qualley waits for him to come home. It’s a straightforward concept, but it matches the song’s emotional push-and-pull perfectly.
If “you and forever” is any indication of what everyone for ten minutes has in store, Bleachers are heading straight into their biggest, boldest era yet. It’s the kind of song that feels like it was written to be screamed in a crowd, arms around your friends, even if everything else in the world is falling apart. May 22 can’t come soon enough.
