New Zealand alt-pop star BENEE has released “Cinnamon,” a bouncy pop track about staying positive when nothing seems to be going right. It is included in her recently announced sophomore album, Ur An Angel I’m Just Particles, out Nov. 7 via Republic Records.
The new single opens with a bassline and drum beat reminiscent of BENEE’s biggest hit “Supalonely,” while her ethereal falsetto shines in the chorus with hypnotizing melodies that perfectly encapsulate the optimistic message of the song. It feels as though she is reminding herself to remain hopeful as she sings, “I might not laugh again, I’ll cross my fingers ’til the end / And I’ll stay sweet like cinnamon, I’ll stay asleep until 3PM.”
On the inspiration behind the song, the singer-songwriter explained:
“I thought, ‘Well, even if everything around me has turned to shit, I’m going to stay sweet, still be kind, and attract the right kind of people.’”
“Cinnamon” is one of four songs BENEE has released off her upcoming album. She has previously shared “Animal,” “Sad Boiii” and the fan-favorite pop-rock track, “Off The Rails.”
