Nashville-based artist behn has released his sophomore single “sophie,” an acoustic indie-pop song reminiscent of Lauv about the lingering heartache of a breakup.
The guitar-layered track opens with the singer-songwriter admitting that he hasn’t moved on from the relationship, singing, “I still have your things in a pile / just in case you come back / I know it’s sad / I guess I’m in denial.” While behn instantly pulls in the listener with his honest lyricism, in the chorus he fully hooks you with catchy melodies as he sings, “Sophie, maybe I’m just crazy / I can’t remember why we fell apart / I passed your house / Called home and broke down / Why the hell is it still this hard?”
Although more stripped back than his upbeat debut, “anyone,” the new single steadily introduces different vocal effects and synths as it progresses, making it consistently interesting and refreshingly unique. Take, for instance, the robotic vocal run-in that leads the second chorus as he sings, “Why’d we break again?” or the wavy synth in the outro that smoothly blends with the melody he is singing.
Originally from Seattle, behn is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who single-handedly writes, produces, and mixes all his music. With meticulously crafted songs like “anyone” and “sophie,” behn is quickly creating his own space in the indie-pop scene and establishing himself as a promising artist to watch.
